“When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it’s our job to share our calm, not to join the chaos.” – L.R. Knost
Becoming a mother, has made me accept that if can’t physically control something, then I have to learn to let it go. I can’t control somethings that happen in my life but what i can control is myself. Whenever Connor misbehaves and I often get frustrated, In those moment I know I have to stop, step back and take a deep breath in order to check myself.
I’ll admit I haven’t always been the most patient person. Becoming a mother taught me to be so.
These are simple steps I take in order to help me cope as a parent:
- Count to 10
- Deep breaths
- Take a break
We have to teach ourselves how to cope, so that we don’t do something we regret. There is no shame in admitting that our children sometimes push us over the edge, which can lead to us behaving irrationally. For example shouting. There’s a fine line between raising your voice and shouting so be aware of this when you are in a difficult situation.
Do everything with love, don’t react in anger or frustration and teach your self to react with love. Try and remember that we are all learning and good things take time.
